Alan Knight

My work is inspired by an emotional response to the natural world, in particular, to the quality of light which is a vital part of the mood of my paintings. I draw in the landscape and then paint intuitively.

In my studio I try to let the materials lead the work to allow the freshness of the landscape to come through in the paint. The painting becomes a living body in its own right and is a response to my feelings and emotions of that time. The use of bold brushstrokes and various other ways of applying paint gives the work a sense of light and movement resulting in a painting that is stimulating and evocative.

I have exhibited in various places in Surrey, Middlesex and London. My work is now in private collections both in Europe and the USA.
